Afzal Husain Choudhury
Mr. Afzal Husain Choudhury is the Founder and President of ASHIC, Foundation Serving Childhood Cancer and one of the members in the Board of Trustees. As a bereaved parent, he brings an unmatched passion to his work and his vision for ASHIC extends beyond any perceived limitations.
As an entrepreneur, Mr. Choudhury has been involved in several development activities in Bangladesh since 1972. Trained in the telecommunications field, he started his own private engineering business in 1977. His entrepreneurial journey includes initiating and developing multi-dimensional engineering and technological enterprises. During his long career in engineering and technological development, he has served as the Chairman and Managing Director of Electro-Mechano (Pvt.) Ltd., Bangladesh Engineering & Technological Services Ltd. (BETS), Systems and Services Ltd. (SSL), AVANTI Ltd., and AVANTI Engineers & Associates. He was the Vice-Chairman of Sheba Telecom (Pvt.) Ltd., during 1996-2004, and Director of “Banglalink”, a Mobile Telephone Operator owned by Orascom, during 2004-2006. He held the position of Chairman & Managing Director of Integrated Services Ltd. (ISL), which is the first licensed Rural Telecom Operator in Bangladesh. In his retirement, he wishes to do his level best to alleviate socio-economic challenges in Bangladesh. This has prompted him to establish the Salma-Afzal Trust (SAT) in 2011, aiming to uplift livelihood of the poor through health education, community development, women empowerment, human resource development, and small to medium scale entrepreneurship development.
